Hey there.
Jake here. Welcome to Working Order, a newsletter dedicated to helping you train for more than fitness.
Each week, you'll get one story and one idea to help you prepare for bold adventures and unforgettable experiences.
Let’s get moving.
🤘 Story
I read a lot.
I dip my toe across different industries, authors, and disciplines.
Some of the best ideas haven’t come from fitness—they’ve come from venture capital, philosophy, and even economics.
Here’s one that hit hard:
Peter Thiel—the billionaire investor behind PayPal, Palantir, and Facebook’s early funding—once said:
“We don’t live in a normal world; we live under a power law.”
In VC, this means that one or two companies return more value than the rest of the portfolio combined.
That’s why Thiel only invests in companies that could return the entire fund.
So how does this apply to your fitness?
Most people train for maintenance.
They work out.
Eat clean.
Track steps.
And that’s fine—it’s consistent, but those investments won’t yield the sort of returns you’re looking for.
If you want real transformation, focus on the one goal, race, or adventure that will yield the greatest return.
1 company = 100x return
1 challenge = 100x personal growth
🏔 The Power Law of Fitness Principle
Most fitness routines teach people how to maintain.
But they don’t teach them to grow.
You eat clean.
Hit the gym.
Get your steps.
But eventually, you plateau—and wonder why.
Here’s the truth:
Your biggest growth won’t come from routines. It’ll come from one challenge that stretches your limits and rewires your identity.
You don’t need more reps.
You need a mission.
